When enabled, senders can define the maximum number of additional attempts a signer receives beyond their initial signing attempt. This prevents indefinite retry loops and provides clarity on when a document needs to be reactivated. ## Understanding signing attempts A signing attempt is counted when a signer actively cancels the signing process on the ESP (eSign Service Provider) page by clicking the "Cancel" button. ### What counts as a failed attempt - Clicking "Cancel" on the ESP page ### What does NOT count as a failed attempt - Closing the browser tab - Refreshing the page ## Configuring maximum signing attempts To enable this feature: 1. Navigate to the invitee-level options when creating or configuring a document 2. Enable **Define maximum signing attempts allowed (only for Aadhaar eSign)** 3. Enter the number of additional attempts beyond the initial attempt (e.g., entering "1" gives the signer 2 total attempts) > **Info — Total attempts calculation** > > Total attempts = 1 (initial attempt) + number entered in the field > > For example, if you enter "1", the signer gets 2 total attempts. > **Info — If disabled** > > If this option is disabled, the signer gets unlimited signing attempts until the document expires. ## What happens when attempts are exhausted After all attempts are exhausted, the following occurs: ### For the signer The signer is redirected to the Leegality page with the following message: > **Warning — Error occurred** > > Retry attempt exhausted. The signer cannot attempt to sign the document again until it is reactivated by the sender. ### For the sender On the Leegality Dashboard, the document and invitee status changes: - **Invitee status**: Expired, Active, and Unsigned - **Document status**: Expired - **Document location**: Appears in the Expired and Failed folder - **Available action**: Re-activate document option ## Reactivating a document after exhausted attempts To allow the signer another opportunity to sign: 1. Navigate to the document details page from the Expired and Failed folder 2. Click the **Re-activate** option 3. Set a new expiry date for the document 4. Save the changes Once reactivated, the signer will receive one additional attempt to complete the signing process.
