It detects and rejects spoofing attempts such as photos and recorded videos. By analysing facial cues and other behavioural patterns, Smart User Liveliness ensures signer identity, enhancing the security and integrity of electronic signatures. ## Enable Smart User Liveliness in Department-Level Settings You can enable Smart User Liveliness in the Department-level settings, depending on your subscription plan. > **Info — Note** > > The availability of Smart User Liveliness in Department-level Settings depends on your subscription plan. > > If included in your plan, only one version (either Smart User Liveliness Version 1 or Version 2 Beta) will be active for your Leegality account at any given time. 1. Click on the **Setting ⚙️** icon on the top right corner. 2. Go to the **Department > Invitee Configs**. 3. Toggle Enable **Smart User Liveliness** (**Note:** Version 1 or 2 will be shown based on your subscription). 4. Set the **Acceptance Percentage**. The Acceptance Percentage indicates the confidence score at which Smart User Liveliness confirms the authenticity of the document signer. (We recommend setting this percentage to around 65%.) 5. Click **Update** to save settings. > **Info — note** > > OTP-based (Manual) User Liveliness will not appear in Department settings but you will get it in the Sending Journey if included in your plan. ## Use Smart User Liveliness This section guides you through the process of sending a document with Smart User Liveliness enabled. Follow the same steps for workflow-based sending journeys (Excel and Dashboard) as well. 1. Click on **+ Create** and start a new document journey or select a template. 2. On the Invite screen, click on **Invitee level options** of those invitees for whom you want to enable Smart User Liveliness. 3. Toggle **Enable security features**. After that, enable **Capture photo**, and then enable **Liveliness**. 4. Select the **Smart User Liveliness** option. > **Info** > > Smart User Liveliness replaces Old User Liveliness in the sending journey if enabled in department-level settings. 5. Set the **number of retry attempts** allowed by the signer for Smart User Liveliness. The drop down offers options ranging from 0 to 3. “0” signifies no retry attempts, while each increment from 1 onwards represents an additional retry attempt beyond the original. 6. Click **Save** and send your document. > **Info** > > Smart User Liveliness is unavailable for Automated eSign (Virtual & Doc Signer) & Doc Signer. ## Signing Journey Here, we outline the signing process with Smart User Liveliness. The signer needs to follow the steps mentioned below to complete the Liveliness check in their signing journey. > **Info — Note** > > These instructions must be followed strictly for successful signer’s verification. 1. The invitee receives the invitation via email, SMS, or WhatsApp. Start the journey by clicking signing link/button. 2. Preview the document and click on the **Proceed** button 3. Read and follow the instructions carefully and click on Proceed at the bottom right. 4. Next, a camera preview will be shown to the signer. Here they can switch between front or back cameras and also ensure the face is properly visible. 5. Once satisfied with the preview, click Capture to **continue**. 6. The signer must align their face within the oval frame within 15 seconds. ### Case I: Success - The signer will see a success message with 3 captured photos. - If the signer is unsatisfied with the outcome, they can click on **Retry** for another face capture attempt. ### Case II: Failure - The signer encounters a failure message (e.g., Time Out or Threshold not matched). - In case of Time out, the signer needs to retry the face capture attempt and place their face in the oval within the set time frame. - In case, the Threshold is not matched, the signer needs to retry the face capture (If additional attempts are allowed) and make sure they are in a well-lit environment with no accessories on like spectacles, headphones, etc. 7. Click **Proceed** in the bottom right corner to eSign the document. ## Face Match + Smart User Liveliness If you have configured both Smart User Liveliness and Face Match then the process of both will be carried out simultaneously in a single face capture. The signer will not be required to separately perform Face Match and Smart User Liveliness. The results of both will be shown on a single screen as well. > **Info — note** > > If Smart Face Liveliness fails then Face Match will not happen at all and only the liveliness result will be shown. If both Liveliness and face match are successful, a success screen will be shown. The remaining attempts displayed will reflect the lower count between Smart Face Liveliness and Face Match. Once attempts for either verification are exhausted, the signer cannot retry both liveliness and face match. For example, Face Match has 2 retry attempts and Smart Face Liveliness has 3 retry attempts. Then, After 2 retry attempts the signer cannot do both, neither Face Match nor Liveliness. ## Best Practices for Signers - Smart User Liveliness The signer can optimise their confidence score by adhering to these best practices during the liveliness check. - Make sure the signer is in a well-lit place. - Only one intended person should be in front of the camera. - Remove accessories like spectacles, masks, hats, headphone, etc. - Set the display’s screen brightness to a maximum level. - The surrounding environment should have fairly uniform light, and not too dark or too bright. - Lighting on the face should be flat, avoiding varied lighting such as shadows. - The signer’s face should have neutral facial expressions with mouth closed and little to no smile. - Minimum video recording resolution: 320x240px. ## Details Page: View Remaining Retry Attempts To check the remaining retry attempts for Smart user liveliness and/or face match verification for a signer: 1. Go to the details page of the document. 2. Hover over the info icon ⓘ next to the specific invitee. 3. A tooltip will display the remaining retry attempts for smart user liveliness and face match for that invitee. In the event of a timeout (where the system couldn’t detect your face within the oval in approximately 40 seconds), the number of retry attempts will not decrease. However, if the Smart User Liveliness check is unsuccessful, the number of attempts will decrease by 1.
