In v4, you create templates in the **Templates V4** area and then add them to a primary document while building a workflow or creating a new document. > **Caution — v4 templates are separate from existing templates** > > Templates created for current (v3) workflows cannot be used in v4, and v4 templates cannot be used in current workflows. To use a template in v4, create it in the **Templates V4** tab. ## Create a v4 template 1. Go to the **Templates** section using the left panel. 2. Open the **Templates V4** tab. 3. Click **+ Create** to create a new template. 4. Enter a **Template name**. 5. Choose an editor: - [**PDF Editor**](https://knowledge.leegality.com/document-execution/template/pdf-editor/create-a-pdf-template) — start with an existing PDF file and add dynamic fields on top of it. - [**Text Editor**](https://knowledge.leegality.com/document-execution/template/html-template/) — start with a blank document in Leegality's HTML-based template engine. 6. Click **Proceed**. The selected editor opens, where you can lay out the template and add fields. ## Use a v4 template Once created, a template can be added to a primary document in two places: - **In a workflow:** While configuring a primary document in the **Create** stage, click **Add Template** and select the template you want. For the full flow, see [Create a v4 workflow](https://knowledge.leegality.com/document-execution/workflows/v4/create-a-workflow#step-2-prepare-your-documents). - **In a one-off document:** Add the template while preparing the document in the New Document journey. See [New Document](https://knowledge.leegality.com/document-execution/workflows/v4/new-document).
